I've spent a very enjoyable 6 hours completely re-vamping this little site of mine. Before I was using a magazine style theme, but it was very awkward to update, so I tended to not bother.

If you liked this post, say thanks by sharing it:

Deciding that I did actually want to keep updating this site, and with a little bit of a plan in my head, I thought it would be wise to update the theme to one that allowed me to keep the site updated in a much simpler fashion.

I will hopefully be getting a couple of regular writers involved, and for sure will be updating the site more often.

We’d love to hear any feedback on the new theme, especially if you find some bugs with it, or find that we’ve broken something!

Looks fantastic mate. I am off to Japan for the first time next week and hoping to get some ink in Tokyo. Excited!

    Thanks Simon!
Where abouts are you visiting, or are you taking the train pass all over Japan?
The tattoo artist I use and thoroughly recommend Horizaru-san moved from Tokyo to Nagoya, so I’d definitely make an appointment at Genko Tattoo (where he is now working) if you are down in that area.

    Hi there!

I’m heading to Japan in April and staying in Shinjuku. Could you recommend a good artist for me I that area?? I was speaking with an artist in shinjuku and he quoted me 39,000 yen for a simple cherry blossom tattoo to frame some script on my ribs…. Is that a normal rate?

I hope you can help me,

    Maria Redmond

    Hi Maria,

Pricing of Tattoo’s is a somewhat involved affair, depending on the size, the density and the complexity of the tattoo (including number of different colours) means that a tattoo is generally costed in time taken to do.

The guy I use is 15,000 JPY per hour, and in an hour he can generally cover an area the size of the palm of your hand (through lining, shading and colouring). How big is the piece you are thinking of getting?? for 39,000 JPY I would expect 2ish hours work.

    Hope that this helps!

Love the new layout – would love to read more about it. What template have you used and who is your blog provider?

  • admin says:

Thanks Mammy Jane :-) We used a template called Poser Ink A which can be purchased here: ThemeForest and we use WordPress to provide the blog!
